Copywriting

Long-form, short-form, social-media-soundbite-form; articles, blogs, whitepapers; website copy, Kickstarter copy, social media copy; book-length memoirs, treatises, autobiographies; if you’ve got a project with a clearly defined length, platform, and target audience, I can write it.

Social Media Management

You’ve got less than a second to grab your reader’s attention. You must be provocative without compromising credibility. You must conquer the beast that is social media copy.

EditingFor those who’ve already got documents, but who need grammatical, structural, and tonal kinks ironed out. Project size ranges from social media post to book-length memoir.

Podcast Production

A burgeoning medium, podcasts are an excellent platform for storytelling…if utilized properly. A trained and award-winning podcaster, I know the process, inside and out — from finding great guests, to scripting, to recording and editing top-quality audio.

MiscellaneousDon’t see your project represented here? No problem — I’ve written everything from Kickstarter campaigns to 65,000-word autobiographies.

Copywriting

Most people I know are bursting with great ideas — and have zero time in which to write them. Having written stories since childhood, distilling, structuring, and expressing complex ideas in digestible text is second nature for me.

How it Works

  1. We have a ~30-minute conversation, in which you explain your concept to me (including length, platform, and target audience) and I take copious notes

  2. Depending on your timeframe, I take 1-3 days to perform additional research (if necessary) and begin drafting your copy in your voice (or your company’s)

  3. We have a follow-up conversation to address any necessary edits

  4. You receive any or all of the following:

    • A well-structured, eloquently expressed, SEO-friendly 750–1,500-word article

    • A whitepaper explicating a pressing industry issue

    • Website copy that expresses who you are, what problem you solve, why you do it, and how you’ve done it

This, or literally anything else that you can imagine — I thrive within constraints, and take pleasure in adapting my voice and skillset to different word-containers. Let me know if you’ve got a project that I haven’t mentioned, or defies categorization — all the better.

Social Media Management

The philosophy undergirding my social media writing style is simple: Authenticity wins.

How it Works

  1. We agree on a monthly schedule, including post types, days of the week (and times of day) to post, tone of voice, length of copy, and recurring meetings

  2. I produce a draft of each post 1-2 days in advance for your review and approve

  3. Upon approval, I create and publish each post on the agreed-upon date and time

Bringing it All Back Home: Why Bob Dylan Sold His Catalog for $300 Million

In early December, Bob Dylan sold his 600+-song catalog to Universal Music for upwards of $300 million. A Dylan scholar, I had a theory on why he did it — in short, to protect his assets for his and his family’s sake. With obvious wealth management implications, I wrote an article about this for Randy Kaufman, and then designed a campaign to go along with it. This included:

  1. 1/20 — Posts on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter to announce the article

  2. 1/22 — A Dylan quote, posted on aforementioned sites, to boost the article

  3. 1/27 — Repost of an NPR article on the topic of artist catalog sales

  4. 1/29 — A post about Dylan’s memoir, Chronicles, Vol. I, to boost the article

Results:

  • 3,283 total LinkedIn views

  • 54 total interactions

  • 283 total website visits

Podcast Production

I received top-tier podcast training from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s New Arts Journalism department. It’s a fascinating medium, which combines writing, reporting, audio editing, music composition, and more.

How it Works

  1. You and I have a kickoff meeting, in which we determine the goals of the show, and iron out specifics like length, format, and production schedule

  2. We coordinate with guests, and then conduct high-quality, well-recorded interviews

  3. I edit the raw tape into an episode — this includes condensing interviews, composing theme music, and adding sound design

  4. I send a rough cut of the episode to you for your feedback

  5. I produce a final cut of the episode based on your notes

  6. We agree on a distribution method — getting your show live on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, etc. — which I set up and manage

Coaching

Did you know: In an average year, self-doubt kills more writing projects than all other causes combined? For reasons I’ve been investigating throughout my adulthood, self-doubt has never afflicted me severely enough to halt my pen. It has led me to love writing and to love the process of helping others do the same.

How it Works

  1. We have a ~30-minute conversation, in which we discuss a couple of primary topics:

    • Your Goals. In an ideal scenario, what role do you see writing playing in your personal/professional life? Do you have specific or general objectives? Do you want input on structural topics like grammar, and/or overarching topics like “voice”? Do you want to become more well-equipped to write specific types of posts — e.g.: journalistic articles, Substack newsletters, social media copy?

    • Your Time. How many hours per week/month do you think you could devote to your writing improvement? This will have some impact on how I design “assignments,” and on how we structure our collaboration.

  2. Depending on your answers, I design writing “assignments” to help guide your development.

  3. We have regular meetings to assess your progress, or until you feel you have met your writing goals.

Editing

If you’ve already produced a document and feel good about its structure and quality, send it to me, and it will emerge grammatically pure, typo-cleansed, and stylistically sharp.

How it Works

  1. We have a brief conversation to discuss the intent of the writing and the type of edits required.

  2. I put the document through my linguistic ringer and return it to you, typically within 48 hours.

  3. You assess the document, and if necessary, we address any remaining loose ends.

  4. You wind up with error-free, rhythmic, well-structured copy.

Miscellaneous

Don’t see your project listed here? I’m okay with that. Given clear enough specifications, I can write (and have written) just about anything. Some other past projects include:

  • 1 full-length (~67,000-word) memoir (inquire for details, gotta be discreet)

  • Musician bios

  • Album liner notes

  • Website copy

  • Kickstarter campaigns

  • Project descriptions
